Brewood Bridge: Major update on long-awaited Staffordshire bridge repairs after nine-month road closure

A timescale has now been revealed for work to begin - here’s when

The Canal & River Trust has completed the detailed design for repairs to Brewood Bridge, with work potentially getting under way by the end of November, subject to outstanding approvals.

The trust confirmed that plans for the bridge repairs are continuing to progress, bringing the project closer to the start of the construction phase.

However, work cannot begin until the necessary approvals have been granted by third-party utility providers.

Once these approvals are secured, the Canal & River Trust will be able to confirm the repair programme and provide a firm start date.

The bridge, which carries Kiddemore Green Road and High Green across the Shropshire Union Canal, has been closed to traffic since December 2025 after significant structural damage was discovered.

The trust has also thanked residents and businesses for their continued patience and understanding while the project moves through its final stages.

In its latest update, the organisation said it would continue to keep the community informed as progress is made and further information becomes available.

While the completion of the detailed design marks an important milestone, the start date remains dependent on the outstanding approvals.

The trust is currently aiming to begin the repairs by the end of November, although this remains subject to the necessary permissions being in place.

A spokesman for the Canal & River Trust said: “We are continuing to progress plans for the repair of Brewood Bridge and have now completed the detailed design. We would like to thank local residents and businesses for their continued patience and understanding while we work through the final stages of the project.

“We are aiming to begin work to repair the bridge by the end of November, subject to the outstanding approvals being granted by third-party utility providers.

“Once these approvals are in place, we will be able to confirm the programme and start date. We will continue to provide updates as the project progresses and further information becomes available.”
