100-year-old Wolverhampton home could be demolished to make way for new flats
A 100-year-old home in Penn could be demolished to make way for new flats.
The move would see a four-bed detached family home in Coalway Road, Penn, Wolverhampton, flattened and replaced with a three-storey building with nine one and two-bed flats.
The application by Stoneleigh Architectural Services said the building had been vacant for “some time” and the developer had looked at adding ‘large extensions and alterations’ and converting it into flats as well as separate plans to build bungalows and new homes.
But those plans were deemed an insufficient use of the land, according to the planning applications, and the flats were the “most suitable, sustainable, energy efficient and attractive development.”
The building, near to Woodfield Primary School, was believed to have been sold in November last year for £390,000.

The plans for the site, next to Coalway Road Dental Surgery, include nine parking spaces and extra planting.
A statement included with the application said: “The proposals will make efficient use of the previously developed landscaping for affordable housing, in a sustainable location.
“The outline application will offer the opportunity for the subsequent design of a contemporary residential scheme which responds well to its local context, with new and improved landscaping features which will enhance the local street scene.
“The development will provide an attractive location to live, close to amenities and providing options for travel to these amenities and wider destinations by modes other than the private car.
“It is considered that the development proposal is entirely appropriate and acceptable in planning terms.
“The site offers an opportunity to provide housing which seeks to create a safe, attractive and interesting residential environment.”
