Now called simply Bilston Charity Shop, it still raises funds for Sedgley-based Beacon Vision and has expanded floorspace, bright new colours and branding, and bigger shelf space as well as more mannequins. It also offers deliveries and online ordering.

Former Wolverhampton mayor, now deputy and Bilston North councillor Linda Leach was on hand with volunteers and customers to open the new store.

She said: "This shop swap and move feels a natural next chapter in the history of the store and reflects what The Beacon does best, being visible, accessible and firmly rooted in the life of Bilston.

"I love the story of the wool ladies who work here and we wish them all the best - they typify the Bilston spirit of people working together, supporting one another and having a bit of fun along the way."

The shop is open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm. For more details, visit the Facebook pages Beacon Centre for the Blind and Beacon Charity Finds
