First 'Love Your Community' litter picking day takes place in Wolverhampton

Neighbourhoods across Wolverhampton will enjoy some extra care and attention this year thanks to a targeted new team.

On Wednesday, January 21 Wolverhampton Council’s Cabinet approved the Love Your Community: Neighbourhood Team initiative, a dedicated taskforce to improve the cleanliness, safety and appearance of local areas.

The 12 month pilot project will see the Neighbourhood Team working closely with residents and community groups across the city to enhance the appearance of local streets and open spaces as well as increase pride and engagement, with the first litter pick taking place in Bilston on Saturday, January 24.

Councillor Bhupinder Gakhal, cabinet member for resident services at Wolverhampton Council, said: “The local environment has a huge impact on our sense of pride and wellbeing. From talking to our residents, we know that these are things that really matter to them.

“We have listened to what people have said and are investing in this proactive new approach to do everything we can to make our city a cleaner, greener and safer place for local people to live.
