There will be 30 parking spaces to the front of the site, and a ramp will link the new area to the existing Mazda showroom.

The news comes days after the council gave permission for the former Land Rover dealer, on the opposite side of Bone Mill Lane, to be demolished.

The Manchester-based Northhold Group was told last week it could demolish the showrooms, with work due to take place in November.

The showroom, which previously housed a Suzuki and Lada dealer, has been empty since 2012, when it closed with the loss of 45 jobs. A new £14 million dealer later opened off Penn Road.

It is understood that a sale has now been agreed for the 7,100 sq ft former Land Rover garage, after it was recently advertised for £1 million.

The council had identified the site as being suitable for mixed retail and commercial development.
