Senior planning officer Andrew Johnson told Lidl's agent Molly Harris that the company did not require planning permission to start the demolition work.

The company claims the supermarket will create 40 new jobs, if permission is granted.

F A Gill, once owned by former Ludlow MP Christopher Gill, closed in 2023 after being taken over.

The developer said there was little risk to wildlife, and agreed not to carry out the work during the birds' mating season.
