The West Midlands Fire Service took to social media to advise nearby residents to avoid the area after reports that two commercial premises were reported to be alight at about 9.20pm on Wednesday (August 6).

A fire service spokesman explained: "Shortly after 9.20pm on August 6 we responded to Neachells Lane, in Wednesfield.

"Five fire engines, a 4x4 brigade response vehicle and a hydraulic aerial platform responded, crewed by firefighters from Fallings Park, Bilston, Willenhall, Wolverhampton, Oldbury and Bloxwich.

"This was a severe fire affecting an industrial trading unit. The adjacent building was heavily smoke-logged. Gas and electric was isolated to the affected area. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used eight jets to fully extinguish the fire. Drone operations supported them."

West Midlands Police also attended and closed Neachells Lane and Strawberry Lane while the firefighters fought the flames.

The crews left the scene incident shortly after 1.20am returning twice to check for hotspots. After a revisit at 11.30am this morning the building was handed back to the site owner.

In a post on X the brigade said: "We have five crews in attendance at a fire on Neachells Lane, Wolverhampton.

"As a precaution, if you live or work nearby, please keep doors and windows closed.

"Avoid the area, where possible. "
