Simon Parton wants Rodeos to bring a touch of the wild west to Wolverhampton

Located at the site of the former Canal Club in Wolverhampton, Rodeos is a restaurant and venue specialising in barbecue and other food from the deep south of America.

Once work has been done to renovate the site, the complex will take on the appearance of a town in the wild west age, complete with a jail house and a saloon.

Managing director Simon Parton said Rodeos was a concept that Wolverhampton had never seen before.

He said: "We signed the lease in December and within eight weeks, we're pretty much ready to go and have built the whole things.

"We've built a full cowboy town within the building, with a stables, sheriffs office and a number of other areas, all of which were built with Covid and social distancing in mind.

"We've got a bank, three wagons called the good, the bad and the ugly and a bullpen which houses our rodeo bull Stevie the Bull, and a live music site."

Mr Parton said the restaurant was the next step up for his business, after opening Fat Daddies Smokeshack just outside the city centre, and spoke about the food on offer.

He said: "We look to do proper food from the south of America, with things like Ribs and Brisket, which takes a lot of work to prepare.

"We're not a fast food restaurant and we don't do a quick cook as this food can take up to 16 hours of prep the day before, then cook for a lot time for it to just drop off the bone."

Mr Parton also spoke about the venue and how it was such a good venue for the restaurant.

He said: "The Canal Club is an iconic building and is really well-known in the town, and the details inside are fantastic and so minimalist.

"There's a lot of history here with the way the building has worked in the past and I hope we've been able to bring a lot more to it.

"We're a big plate restaurant, so you're not going to leave here hungry and we hope it will become a great cultural venue and a place you can loosen your belt at."

Rodeos will be opening on a limited basis from April 12 with a lockdown menu.
