Pedestrian hit and killed by lorry on A5 near Brownhills - police appeal for witnesses

A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the A5 between Cannock and Brownhills.

Police, ambulance and fire service crews were called at 11am on Wednesday (December 31) to Watling Street, between the Rising Sun Island (for the A452/Brownhills West) and the Turf Island (for the B4154/Norton Canes) after reports of a collision.

A male pedestrian had been involved in a collision with a lorry and was pronounced dead by paramedics a short time later.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said his next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

The driver of the lorry was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened, a National Highways West Midlands spokesperson said.

Anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has relevant dashcam footage, is asked to call police on 101, or use Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website, quoting incident 205 of December 31.
