Asylum seeker who murdered migrant hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte jailed as protestors including Tommy Robinson gather outside court - recap
The asylum seeker who stabbed a hotel worker to death after following her to a deserted Walsall railway station was sentenced by a High Court Judge at Coventry Crown Court today (January 30).
Deng Chol Majek was found guilty last year of the brutal murder of hotel worker Rhiannon Whyte at the Bescot Stadium railway station in Walsall in October 2024.
Rhiannon, from Walsall, who worked at the nearby Park Inn Raddison Hotel, was stabbed 23 times with a screwdriver on the night of Sunday, October 20.
No motive for the killing was ever given during the two-week trial in October 2025 and the jury took just two hours and five minutes to come back with a guilty verdict, convicting Majek of the fatal and 'callous' attack on Rhiannon, the mother of a five-year-old son.
The sentencing was previously pushed back due to disputes over Majek's age. Today, Judge Soole addressed the issue of his age, which was given as 19 at trial, but said the evidence is that he was 26 at the time of the murder.
