Judge dismisses paedophile's 'shaggy dog story' that he was only downloading indecent images of children to gather evidence
A paedophile who claimed he only downloaded indecent images of children so he could report a website to the police has been told by a judge his "shaggy dog story is not fooling anyone'".
Ryan Whatley, of Romilly Close, Walsall, appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday (November 27) to be sentenced for three counts of possessing indecent images.
The 23-year-old pleaded guilty to possessing 28 category A images, 43 category B images and 10 category C images.

However, Whatley maintained he only had the images because he was shocked to see them on the website Reddit and was not attracted to children.
He said he planned to report the website to the police which is why he downloaded the images. However, when his phone was seized it contained nearly 100 indecent images of boys as young as five years old.
