The damage, which took place in early October, was reported to West Midlands Police at the time, and is believed to have been caused by the use of disposable barbecues on the memorial.

The replacement disc was purchased by the Barr Beacon Trust, at a cost of £397, and was installed on November 6, 2025 in time for the service on Friday, November 7.

“It’s a place of remembrance, pride and reflection. The damage caused to the memorial was completely unacceptable and deeply disrespectful.

“We’re grateful to the Barr Beacon Trust for funding the replacement discs and to the council teams who have made the repairs happen. I’d urge everyone visiting the site to treat it with care and respect.

“I would also like to point out that disposable barbecues and open flames are strictly prohibited at Barr Beacon.”

Services to mark remembrance are set to take place across Walsall to honour those who have served and sacrificed for their country.
