Councillor Mike Bird, elected as leader of Walsall Council on June 10, said he expects council officers to be in the building for at least three days a week, starting today.

Councillor Bird said: “I find it disenchanting that over the years we have to send 10 emails to 10 different people to find out how something works, that is not the way this council runs and it is not efficient.

“There is a place to be working from home, but there is a place to be here too.

“I expect people who are not out in the field to be in this building a minimum of three days a week.”

The move was announced at a full council meeting on July 30 as part of the leader’s report.

The report also outlined the leader’s plans to put ‘force back into enforcement’ by launching an enforcement board made up of officers and elected members.

The statement said: “Fly tipping and other aspects of anti-social behaviour are the scourge of this borough and as leader of this council I am not prepared to put up with it.”
