Leisure centre near Wolverhampton to close for £46,000 facelift - here's when
Work to revamp a leisure centre near Wolverhampton to the tune of almost £50,000 is due to begin which will cause the venue to shut - here's when
Changing rooms at Wombourne Leisure Centre are set to be renovated at a cost of £46,000 after councillors gave the go-ahead for Government cash from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to be spent on the improvements.
As a result the male and female changing facilities at the premises in Ounsdale Road in Wombourne will be closed from November 17 (Monday) for approximately four weeks.
There will be no lockers available while the work is being carried out meaning that users should arrive gym-ready with minimal belongings in tow and no valuables.
There will be limited changing access before 8.30am with pool changing rooms available from 8.30am-3.30pm and there will be no alternative changing areas. Evenings users are being advised to change and shower at home.
The drinks' fountains will also not be available and users should bring their own drink.
The facilities are expected to be back in action before the Christmas period at the centre which boasts a modern gym, swimming pool, and hosts a wide range of exercise classes.

South Staffordshire Council was awarded £1,250,932 from the UKSPF to be spent on district schemes including improvements to village centres and council-owned green spaces, installation of energy saving measures in recently acquired council-owned temporary accommodation and solar panel installation.
The refurbishment of the fitness suite, changing rooms replacement of the pool hoist was given the thumbs up in the previous financial year, but only the installation of the new hoist was completed in spring.
A cabinet report stated: "As is commonplace on build or refurbishment projects a contingency amount has also been factored into the request should costs overrun.
“In putting together the plan for this year’s allocation, £46,000 was indicatively set aside for this project and that full amount has been requested, but with the expectation the full amount may not then be required and could then potentially be reallocated to other projects in plenty of time. The project can commence promptly, subject to approval.”

The 2021 census recorded that the village near Dudley and Wolverhampton was home to 13,800 people and that 47.8 per cent of them were aged 50 and over. It is popular with families and commuters alike due to being surrounded by countryside and accessible leisure amenities.
