The Boat Inn has said that its doors are still open for thirsty patrons, despite the sudden closure of a bridge on its doorstep.

Penridge Bridge, on Cannock Road, was closed yesterday afternoon following concerns that were raised at around 5.30pm relating to suspected subsidence and the bridge collapsing.

The concerns were raised after a large amount of silt and debris was spotted near the entry to the canal tunnel under the bridge, leading to many speculating that the bridge was crumbling.
