Penkridge canal subsidence: Bridge and tunnel near pub still closed off to motorists, boaters and walkers

A road bridge, canal tunnel and towpath in Penkridge remain closed following subsidence.

New images show the scene in Cannock Road, Penkridge, which was closed at The Boat Inn bridge over fears of potential subsidence.

The road was shut at around 5.30pm on Wednesday (December 31).

In new photos taken on Thursday morning, yellow and red barriers can be seen blocking the bridge to traffic while a metal fence blocks the towpath tunnel below to walkers.

A mound of debris and silt could be seen in the water, including bricks and large rocks.
