The M6Toll was closed in both directions following the major collision in Brownhills, which took place between T6 Chasetown and T7 Cannock, at around 9.40am

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 9.06am to a road traffic collision involving one car on the M6 Toll between T7/6 in Brownhills, Walsall.

"One ambulance, two paramedic officers and the Midland Air Ambulance from Cosford attended the scene. Upon arrival we found a man who was the driver of the car in a serious condition.

"He received treatment from ambulance staff at the scene and was conveyed to Royal Stoke University Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment."

Both the northbound and southbound carriageways were affected, with drivers urged to take alternative routes.

At 10.20am, it was confirmed that the M6toll Southbound and Northbound lanes between T7 and T6 had reopened.
