Zara Arsalan, aged 31, also known as Sharandeep Talwandi, is standing trial at Coventry Crown Court  accused of murdering baby Harleen Bains.

On Monday, the start of the fourth week of the trial, His Honour Judge John Cavanagh said she had not turned up again because, she had told the prison where she is being held, she 'had a sore throat."

He said: "I am reluctant to send the jury home again but if this does go on it runs the risk of prejudicing the trial and it will have to go ahead in her absence."

Instead the jury heard transcripts of a police interview made in the aftermath of the death of baby Harleen,  who sustained  head injuries at a maisonette in Caddick Crescent,  West Bromwich, on July 23, 2020 and died the following day.
