Smoke seen over M5 after West Bromwich fire

Smoke could be seen along the M5 motorway after a fire in West Bromwich.

Firefighters were called to a premises in Kelvin Way shortly after 12pm today after someone driving down the street called 999 after seeing smoke billowing in the air.

Upon crews arrival at the scene, the fire was out. The fire was believed to have started in a tar melting pot.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service: "We received a 999 call at 12.02pm on Monday.

"We sent two crews from West Bromwich fire station, so eight firefighters in total.

"It was a fire in a tar melting pot and it was out on arrival – we carried out an inspection only.

"We used a thermal imaging camera to check the fire had not spread.

"The initial report came in as some driving along Kelvin Way saw black smoke."
