'Expect delays': Major disruption reproted as stranded lorry blocks M6 live lane in the Black Country

A live lane was closed after a lorry became stranded on the M6.

West Midlands Roads warned of major disruption due to a stranded lorry on the M6 northbound, between Junction 8 (for the M5) and Junction 9 (at Wednesbury).

The incident was reported by the roads authority at 7.24am today (February 26), with the roads authority warning to 'expect delays' as the vehicle is removed.

A West Midlands Roads spokesperson said: "M6 northbound between Junction 8 (M5) and Junction 9 (Wednesbury).

"Stranded lorry. Live lanes closed. Expect delays."

Delays of around an hour were reported on the M6 as of 8.25am, with West Midlands Roads warning that disruption is now being experienced between Junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and Junction 7 (Great Barr), with traffic reaching back to Junction 5 (Castle Bromwich).

A West Midlands Roads spokesperson said: "M6 northbound, between Junction 6 (Spaghetti Junction) and Junction 7 (Great Barr), delays have extended to beyond one hour from Junction 5.

"Allow extra time."

National Highway West Midlands have said that the disruption was caused by a stranded heavy goods vehicle (HGV), adding that the broken-down lorry has since been recovered; however, some residual delays remain. 

A National Highways spokesperson said: "Northbound between Junction 8 (M5) and Junction 9 (Wednesbury), a broken-down vehicle lorry has been recovered and traffic management has been removed.

"Delays remain, but should begin to clear."
