It is believed a white Citroën DS5 collided with the cyclist in High Street just after 2.30pm on Monday.

The male rider was taken to hospital with life-changing head injuries, while the road was shut for several hours while collision investigators scoured the scene and carried out a reconstruction.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said the 42-year-old is currently in a critical condition receiving expert medical care, while specialist family liaison officers support his close family.

A number of witnesses were spoken to at the scene but Sergeant Alan Wood, who is leading the investigation, is appealing for others with information to come forward.

Sgt Wood said: "We would like to hear from anyone who was in Wordsley High Street Monday afternoon and may have witnessed the collision to get in touch – we need to understand exactly what happened and their information could be important."

Anyone with information can call officers on 101, quoting incident reference number 1320 of May 28, and ask to speak to the Collision Investigation Unit.

Alternatively, information can be passed on anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
