'I am off on holiday and fear might not come back' - Worker in garage of embattled steel firm speak out
Workers at a motor company which services vehicles for Brierley Hill based C Brown Sons (Steel) have spoken of their fears of redundancy
More than 95-per-cent of the staff at the main company, in Pedmore Road, were sent home on August 15 for four weeks, with the rest given a daily retainer whilst the situation regarding its long term future is resolved
Cebron Motors in Holly Hall are part of the same firm looking after the fleet of the company and outside contractors and employ around 12 people at the garage, adjacent to the main factory.
The factory near Dudley is involved in cold rolling and cutting steel among its operations. and was founded almost 80 years ago - it was taken over from the Brown family by new owners the private equity group HLD on April 1 after making a pre-tax loss of £1.42mn, according to its most recent financial results.
The employees of the garage are still working, but say so far they have been 'kept in the dark' over their futures and claim suppliers of parts have not been paid recently.
