M6 lane closures and long delays after vehicle overturned near Birmingham

Commuters were struggling with lane closures and heavy congestion on the M6 this morning (December 5) after a vehicle overturned near Birmingham.

A car overturned near the central reservation on the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 4a for the M42 and 5 for Castle Bromwich, Castle Vale and Sutton Coldfield.

Three of the four lanes of the motorway were closed resulting delays of up to an hour.

National Highways West Midlands has said: “Due to an overturned vehicle, lanes 3 and 4 of (4) are closed on the M6 north near Birmingham between J4A (M42 link) and J5 (Castle Bromwich).

“All emergency services and Traffic Officers are working at the scene with recovery arranged and en route. There are 55 minute delays.”

The incident has largely been cleared. 

However, there are still delays of around 30 minutes in the area. 

National Highways West Midlands added: " The overturned vehicle on the M6 north near Birmingham, between J4A (M42 link) and J5 (CastleBromwich) have now been recovered from the scene. 

"Traffic Officers have cleared the debris and reopened all of the lanes. There are residual delays of up to 30 minutes on the approach."
