Homecare Service in Walsall rated ‘overall good’ on latest CQC inspection

After receiving a ‘requires improvement’ rating back in 2019, Goscote Centre has achieved ‘good’ status on all fronts

Following a CQC inspection, Goscote Centre, on Goscote Lane, Walsall has achieved an overall good rating across the board.

The Goscote Centre is a local authority-run social care facility that provides day support, activities and care services for adults.

Back in 2019, Goscote Centre received a “requires improvement” status from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for being well-led. On July 2, 2026, the CQC awarded them a good rating.

The good rating means that the Goscote Centre is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

Councillor Peter Harrison, portfolio holder for Adult Social Care at Walsall Council, said: "We are delighted that our Shared Lives Service has been rated Good in all five areas by the Care Quality Commission.

“This report recognises the dedication of our Shared Lives carers and staff, who work every day to support people to live fulfilling, independent lives as part of a family and community.

“I would like to thank everyone involved in delivering this service for their commitment and compassion."

In their 2019 report, a CQC inspector said “the service management and leadership was inconsistent” and that “they did not always support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.”

However, following their 2026 routine inspection earlier this month, the Goscote Centre had improved its services and was awarded the ‘good’ rating across all categories.

Inspectors saw that people, carers and relatives were “happy with all aspects of the service” and felt “safe with the support they received.”

The inspection report states that people were treated with “kindness and respect”, while carers and staff “had the skills and training needed to provide safe and effective support.”

To make improvements, the inspector noted that the home should “ensure care plans were detailed and contained all the information required about people’s care needs”, but that safe care was “delivered to people”.
