A Dudley pensioner died after being admitted to hospital following a fall then testing positive for coronavirus.

Minnie Stringer, of Gill Street, died on April 28 at Russells Hall Hospital, her inquest heard.

The 87-year-old retired chain maker was admitted to hospital after a fall, area coroner Joanne Lees said.

Mrs Lees added: "She had a periprosthetic fracture of the left femur and she underwent surgery on February 20.

"She started having chest symptoms and was Covid-19 positive.

"She passed away on April 28.

"Her daughter said she went to sit on the bed and missed, falling between the bed and wardrobe."

Mrs Lees said Mrs Stringer had rheumatoid arthritis, atrial fibrillation, hypertension and LV dysfunction.

The medical cause of death is Covid pneumonia, frailty and periprosthetic fracture of the left femur.

Mrs Lees recorded a narrative conclusion that a fall contributed to a natural death.

John Dunston, of Cape Hill, Smethwick, died on April 18, an inquest heard.

The 72-year-old retired florist was receiving end of life care with a 'do not resuscitate' in place.

Mrs Lees said: "He was seen by the Covid team and prescribed anticipatory medication.

"He was in poor health and had been for some time.

"A member of staff administered medication and returned an hour later and he had passed away."

The medical cause of death was stage 5 chronic kidney disease, type 2 diabetes, ischemic heart disease and peripheral vascular disease, Mrs Lees said.

She recorded a conclusion of natural causes.
