Coronavirus: Updates as regional death toll passes 100 and PM tests positive

A further 19 coronavirus patients have been confirmed to have died across the Black Country and Birmingham and two more have died in Staffordshire, bringing the total death toll in region to 102.

The UK death toll has reached 759 after increasing by more than 150 today for the first time.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Boris Johnson is now self-isolating after testing positive for coronavirus with mild symptoms.

Health secretary Matt Hancock this afternoon confirmed he too has tested positive for the virus, but added his symptoms are mild and he will be working from home and self-isolating.

The news was revealed after the death toll in the Black and Birmingham doubled to 78 on Thursday.

Meanwhile thousands of people across the Midlands united to applaud NHS workers and carers last night.
