'Strongest lady we will ever know': Family to walk 100 miles in memory of Wolverhampton mum who died suddenly

Family members and close friends of a mother from Wolverhampton who died from a rare cancer will be walking 100 miles to raise money.

Samantha Slade, from Wolverhampton, was diagnosed with a neurendocrine tumor in July 2024 and attended a lot of appointments in Birmingham and Wolverhampton.

Neuroendocrine tumors are rare, often slow-growing cancers originating from specialized cells that release hormones, commonly found in the digestive tract or lungs.

In January of this year Mrs Slade was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

The family said Mrs Slade “battled on” with “close family and a few friends with her every second” but she sadly passed away on Sunday 5 April aged 40.

Family members and close friends will now be embarking on a 100 mile fundraiser walk from Leeds to Wolverhampton in memory of Mrs Slade.

Taking part in the walk will be Darren New, Mrs Slade’s cousin, his wife Jodie, as well as Jodie’s brother Antony Perry and his wife Kaytie Tew.

The group will be travelling to Leeds on Thursday 2 July and will be starting the 100 mile walk at around 6am on Friday 3 July.

They are looking to finish in Wolverhampton on Sunday 5 July where Mrs Slade was brought up - on Whetstone Road in Bushbury.

Jodie New told the Express & Star: “That’s where Sam was brought up. It’s a close knit community in Whetstone Road.”

Mrs Slade leaves behind her husband Thomas Slade, aged 37, her son Charlie Slade, aged 15, and daughter Jess Slade, aged nine.

Mrs New added: “Sam is the strongest lady we've all ever known or will ever know! She was so brave with having to battle all of this.

“Sam is the biggest Inspiration there is!

“This will be a long way, a tough challenge at our feet but nothing will compare to what Sam went through and what all of her family and friends are going through now and everyday from now.”

She added: “So to help out Sam's family whether it be a £1 you donate or share our go fund me page you are helping us all massively.

“All of the funds raised will go to Sam's family - her husband, children, mom, dad, brothers - to help them in the worst time of their life.”
