Three yellow weather warnings issued by the Met Office — including alerts for snow across the Midlands and Wales and heavy rain in southern areas — are due to expire on Thursday morning.

The warnings covered the West Midlands earlier this week as bands of rain, sleet and hill snow swept across the region.

Forecasters say Thursday will start cloudy and damp, with outbreaks of rain and sleet clearing through the morning. Any lingering wintry showers are expected to fade, leaving brighter intervals developing into the afternoon. Temperatures will remain on the cool side, with highs around 5C to 7C, and a brisk westerly breeze making it feel colder at times.

Motorists are being advised to take care early on untreated surfaces where patchy frost or ice could form.

Friday is expected to bring a mixture of sunny spells and scattered showers. It will be a chilly start, particularly in sheltered spots, but conditions will gradually turn milder as Atlantic air pushes in from the west. Winds may strengthen later in the day, though many areas will stay largely dry between showers.

Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters predict a noticeable rise in temperatures across the Black Country and surrounding boroughs.

Highs could reach 14C to 16C by Saturday or Sunday — well above the average for February — bringing a brief taste of spring. However, the milder conditions will also be accompanied by further cloud and outbreaks of rain at times, especially later on Sunday.

While the worst of the disruptive wintry weather appears to be over for now, unsettled conditions are likely to continue into next week, with further spells of rain possible.

Residents are advised to keep up to date with the latest local forecasts as the situation develops.
