Weather: Rain and snow hammer the West Midlands as gloomy 2026 continues - but sunshine on the horizon
Wolverhampton and the West Midlands is being hit by rain and snow today - but there is sunshine on the horizon
Residents across the West Midlands are facing another cold and unsettled day, with rain and snow pushing across the region and temperatures struggling to climb much above freezing.
The latest Met Office forecast shows a damp start for many, with outbreaks of rain moving through Wolverhampton, Walsall, Dudley and Sandwell during the morning and into the afternoon. Conditions will remain grey and chilly throughout Friday, February 13, with maximum temperatures reaching only around 3°C.
With light to moderate winds adding to the chill, it is likely to feel colder than the thermometer suggests — particularly in more exposed rural areas.
But there is sunshine on the horizon - when blue skies are forecast to return on Saturday. See the fuller updates below:

Could we see snow?
While most of the precipitation is expected to fall as rain at lower levels, forecasts suggest there is a small risk of sleet or wet snow, particularly over higher ground and during heavier bursts of precipitation.
As temperatures hover close to freezing, especially later in the day and into the evening, any heavier showers could briefly turn wintry. However, significant snowfall is not currently expected across the main urban areas.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious, especially on untreated routes, bridges and rural roads where surface temperatures may drop quickly.
Frost and icy patches overnight
Rain is expected to gradually clear during the evening, allowing skies to become clearer overnight. As this happens, temperatures are forecast to fall sharply to around -2°C in some spots.
The combination of clearing skies and lingering moisture on the ground means frost is likely to develop, with a risk of icy patches forming by Saturday morning. Early commuters and those heading out first thing should allow extra time for their journeys.
Saturday blue skies and sunshine
A dry and colder day with plenty of blue sky and light winds first thing. Sunshine turning hazy into the afternoon, but remaining dry. However the sunshine is shortlived as rain is forecast to arrive overnight, and conditions are expected to turn windy. Maximum temperature 5 °C.
Weekend outlook
Saturday, February 14 will begin cold and frosty, but brighter spells are expected to develop through the morning. Temperatures should recover to around 6°C during the afternoon.
Cloud will increase again into Sunday, February 15, bringing further rain at times. It will turn milder compared to Friday, with highs closer to 9°C, though conditions are likely to remain unsettled.
Residents are encouraged to stay updated with the latest forecasts as temperatures remain low and any wintry hazards could develop quickly.
