'Please take extra care' - Walsall Council issues update as amber weather warning remains in place
Walsall Council has issued an update to residents as the Met Office imposes an amber weather warning until January 9.
The warning means that the cold weather is likely to impact the people’s health, with potential for the whole population to be at risk.
Walsall Council confirmed that winter service crews were out on Monday afternoon gritting the main road networks across the borough.
The authority has also reminded folk how to report rough sleepers in need of support during the freezing temperatures.

While the snowfall has disrupted what would have been the first day back at school for many across the country, Walsall schools have been mostly unaffected aside from a delayed start allowing extra travel time.
A spokesperson for the Walsall Council said: “We are currently under an Amber Cold Weather Alert, in place until Friday, 9 January.

"Expect icy conditions across the borough for the rest of the week.
“Our Winter Service crews are out treating road networks again this afternoon.
"Please take extra care and stick to gritted routes where possible.

“If you need help with heating, food, or bills, please visit our website or visit one of our warm spaces and social hubs.
"Our outreach team is working hard to provide shelter for rough sleepers.”

If you are concerned about someone sleeping rough, you can alert the council by email at RooflessReferral@walsall.gov.uk or phone on 01922 652250.
