The summer holidays are in full swing, and the sunshine is sure to bring families outside and along to one of the many hubs of entertainment in the region.

However, in weather like this remaining vigilant and healthy is crucial, as the high heat can have a significant impact on the wellbeing of people and animals.

Head of marketing at West Midlands Safari Park, Vikki Green, said: "Our dedicated keepers are making sure all our animals stay cool in the warm weather this week - from giant ice blocks for our carnivores to refreshing sprinklers for the ostriches, and plenty of extra water in the mud wallows for our rhinos.

"It’s wonderful to see them enjoying these cooling treats, and we’d love our guests to come and watch too! Hot weather can sometimes put people off visiting, but we’ve got so much to see and do, including our Superhero Summer activities, water rides to help you cool down, and of course, a delicious ice cream or two along the way.”

Elsewhere, the Black Country Living Museum is running days out for families throughout the summer, giving visitors the chance to explore an entire historic town, stroll along high streets of the past, and make friends with historic characters.

The famous fish and chip shop will also surely be a hit in this weather.

A spokesperson for the BCLM said: “We’re celebrating a bostin’ summer here at the Museum. While we don’t expect the hot weather to impact us too much, we always encourage our visitors to stay safe in the sun by wearing suitable clothing and stay hydrated.

"Our popular food and drink offer is always a hit on hot days, especially our ice cream hut, and there’s nothing like eating fish and chips down by the canal in the sunshine.”
