They targeted The Terrace on A5 Watling Street, Brownhills, shortly before 8pm, lighting two separate fires in the building.

Fire crews from Aldridge, Bloxwich, Cannock, Lichfield and Tamworth spent nearly five hours tackling the blaze, which was described as 'severe' and caused major damage inside the old restaurant.

A West Midlands Fire Service spokesman said the first calls were received at 7.57pm.

The spokesman said: "There was a severe fire on the first floor which caused smoke damage.

"The fire has been established as arson as there were two separate seats of fire."

Crews used hose reels, main jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.

A stop message was sent through at 12.52am this morning.
