When Caitlin Leigh graduated with a Bachelor's degree in sport and exercise therapy as one of the University of Wolverhampton's 2025 summer graduates this week, she didn't walk the stage alone.

She proudly walked across the stage with her devoted guide dog, Honey, who had sat with her through each lecturer, seminar and practical session of her three-year degree.

Caitlin, who is visually impaired, overcame significant challenges to complete her qualification, her success a testament not only to her determination but to the unwavering loyalty of her four-legged friend.

Talking about her academic experience alongside her lifelong friend, Caitlin said: "Honey was more than a guide: she was my independence, my confidence, and my calm.

"I couldn’t have done this without her."

In her graduation video, Caitlin could be seen donning her cap and gown, taking to the stage and proudly striding ahead as she collected her degree before being congratulated by her peers.

She wasn't the only one dressed for the occasion: Honey had a gown of her own, handcrafted by Caitlin's lecturer, Aisha James-Smith.

The pup could be seen excitedly strutting along the stage with her owner as she donned her own graduation regalia, receiving plenty of pets on the way.

Teresa Graham, assistant faculty registrar at the University of Wolverhampton, said: "Caitlin’s story embodies the resilience, compassion, and community spirit we’re proud to foster at Wolverhampton.

"We’re honoured to support her in giving back to the organisation that made her journey possible.

"To anyone facing challenges: don’t let anything stop you. The university supported me every step of the way, and they’ll support you, too. You are capable of more than you know."
