University Centre Dudley (UCD) will provide hi-tech facilities for advanced level skills training in technology, according to bosses.

The proposed site is on Tipton Road, next to Warwick Manufacturing Group’s (WMG’s) new Very Light Rail Innovation Centre.

UCD will provide progress routes from the college's other skills training centres, Advance I and Advance II.

Dudley College Principal Lowell Williams said the development will create a new university technical park in the town.

“UCD is a logical development from the fantastic facilities we have already developed in Dudley," he added.

"It will provide significant further investment in those all-important high level technical skills needed in our regional economy."

Dudley North MP Ian Austin said: "This is brilliant news for Dudley because it will open up opportunities and build a better future for local people and make Dudley a strong town again."

Labour's candidate for West Midlands Mayor Siôn Simon has made UCD one of his key manifesto pledges.
