Two-month-old Harleen Bains died after sustaining head injuries and a leg fracture from a significant impact. She was discovered to be in a serious condition when the emergency services arrived at a maisonette in Caddick Crescent, in West Bromwich, on July 23, 2020 and died the following day.

Her mother Zara Arsalan, also known as Sharandeep Talwandi is on trial at Coventry Crown Court accused of murdering Harleen causing her multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain.

The 31-year-old, of Floyer Road, Bordesley Green, Birmingham,  claims the baby was injured when she herself was punched by her ex-partner Jatinder Bains while she was holding the baby, resulting in Arsalan falling unconscious to the floor. She claims when she came round Harleen was also on the floor, but she did not see how the baby ended up there.

She denies offences of murder and causing or allowing the death of a child .

The trial continues.
