Section 60 powers set to be used in Birmingham across night
Extended stop and search powers for police are set to put in place for police officers in part of Birmingham through the night.
West Midlands Police has announced that Section 60 powers will be put in place over parts of Birmingham from 7pm on Saturday until 3am on Sunday, due to a number of recent serious incidents.
The Section 60 powers allow officers to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds and will be in effect for an area extending through Winson Green.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We will be using Section 60 powers in parts of Birmingham this evening and overnight.
"These powers allow us to stop and search people without the need to have reasonable grounds.

"It follows recent serious incidents we're investigating, including a firearms discharge and Section 18 wounding earlier in January.
"The powers will be in place in the area on the map, from 7pm today (Saturday) until 3am tomorrow morning (Sunday).
"As always, our main focus is on keeping everyone safe.
