West Bromwich murder trial: Baby died from 'single episode of extreme violence'
A Home Office forensic pathologist has said it is likely that tragic West Bromwich baby Harleen Bains died from a 'single episode of extreme violence'.
Doctor Alexander Kolar was giving evidence at Coventry Crown Court in the case of Zara Arsalan, the mother of Harleen who was just two months old when she died at a house in Caddick Crescent, West Bromwich on July 23 2020.
Arsalan, also known as Sharandeep Talwandi, aged 31, is standing trial at Coventry Crown Court accused of murdering the infant causing her multiple skull fractures and bleeding on the brain. She denies all charges.
Doctor Kolar carried out a preliminary and then later a full post mortem in the wake of the baby's death, using evidence from experts in different fields of medicine, as well as using his own knowledge and experience.
The jury heard Doctor Kolar, under cross examination by Jonas Hankin KC, agreed with the expert's findings, including those of paediatric neuroradiologist Professor Stavros Stivaros who gave evidence on Monday.
