Video footage, released by West Midlands Police, shows the moment two men were arrested after a man was injured in a drive-by shooting at the junction of West Bromwich High Street and Trinity Way.

Two shots were fired by the driver of a black Vauxhall Mokka towards a white VW Golf which was waiting to turn right at around 11.30am on May 1 last year.

The first shot missed, but the second shattered the rear windscreen of the Golf. The victim, in his 20s, sped away from the scene and arrived at the Midland Met Hospital a short time later.

He was left with shotgun injuries to his shoulder and the back of his head but survived the attack.

Officers from the West Midlands Police's Major Crime Unit (MCU) identified the shooters from CCTV of the cars involved as they travelled in the build-up to and the aftermath of the shooting.

Adyan Hussain, aged 22, had been driving the Mokka and had fired the shots at the Golf.

Around 30 minutes before the attack, he had been dropped off on Leopard Lane, West Bromwich, in a different car by a man called Naveed Hussain.

Adyan Hussain drove off in the Mokka and changed its number plates just before the attack.

After the attack, Adyan Hussain abandoned the car in Oldbury. Both men collected it the following day and changed its plates for a second time.

Adyan Hussain, of Salisbury Road, West Bromwich, admitted possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, and was sentenced to 11 years and three months in jail at a hearing in November.

Naveed Hussain, also 22, of Ida Road, West Bromwich, admitted assisting an offender and last Friday (Jan 9), was sentenced to four years in prison.

Detective Inspector Francis Nock, from our Major Crime Unit Reactive Team, said: “This was a violent attack on a busy High Street, which left a man seriously injured and could easily have killed him.

“We have not been able to establish a motive for this attack, and it’s worrying that those involved felt they could use such violence on the streets of the West Midlands.

“Thankfully, the determination of investigators to bring them to justice has paid off.

“Guns have no place on the streets of the West Midlands, and our detectives and firearms officers work closely with local policing officers to build a picture of those involved in gun crime so that we can take them off the streets and put them behind bars.”
