West Bromwich Gurdwara appeals to identify man who dumped 'raw meat' outside in 'hate' incident

A Gurdwara has launched an appeal for public help after suffering what it described as a hate crime from raw meat being dumped outside.

The Guru Nanak Gurdwara in West Bromwich has launched the appeal and released CCTV footage of the incident, which took place on the afternoon of December 22 outside the gates of the Gurdwara on Edward Street.

In the video, a man can be seen walking along the outside of the Gurdwara, wearing a grey hat, green coat and white trainers and carrying a bag.

He is then seen gesturing at the Gurdwara while taking contents of the bag, then dumps the contents of what has been described as raw meat outside the gates before walking off along the street.

The Gurdwara said it had reported the act to West Midlands Police as a hate crime, saying that meat is forbidden inside the Gurdwara, and said the police had recorded the act as a Racially and Religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm and distress offence.

It has also asked for anyone with any information about the identity of the man responsible to get in touch with West Midlands Police.

A spokesman for the Gurdwara said: "On Monday, December 22 at 3:50pm, a white male was seen on CCTV throwing raw meat in front for the Gurdwara gates at Guru Nanak Gurdwara, West Bromwich. 

"This has been reported to the police as a hate crime and we ask the Sangat to please be vigilant

"On Tuesday, Gurdwara representatives had numerous meetings with the Police, MPs and Local Councillors.

"Following the meeting assurances have been made that the actions of the individual on December 22 outside the Gurdwara have been taken seriously. 

"Furthermore, the Crime has been recorded as a Racially and Religiously aggravated intentional harassment, alarm and distress under crime reference number 20/485135/25.

"We urge the Sangat if anyone has any information regarding the individual or can help with police enquires in the local area please contact West Midlands Police using the above reference or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

"Thank you to all have shared and supported the Gurdwara. We will provide a further updates as the investigation proceeds."

West Midlands Police have been contacted for a comment.
