Brazen wanted man who took carrier bag into Sandwell shop to steal booze jailed
A wanted man who brazenly took his own carrier bag into shops in Sandwell to steal alcohol has been jailed following appeal to trace him.
West Midlands Police issued an appeal to trace Sean Wilson, 38, last weekend following a series of shop thefts in Sandwell - including incidents where he took his own carrier bag to steal items like alcohol.
But on Monday (November 17) the thief, from Netherton, was arrested after handing himself into police. He was subsequently charged with six thefts and failing to appear at court.
On November 18, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court.

Sergeant Jason Walters from Sandwell Police, said: “Thanks to the power of social media my team were able to quickly locate and arrest Wilson.
“Wilson had been inundated with phone calls from people who knew him after they had seen our appeal. He felt he had no choice but to call us and hand himself in.
“Public engagement plays a crucial role in our ability to bring offenders to justice. I am extremely grateful to everyone who acted on the information.
“Working together, we can continue to tackle retail crime and keep Sandwell’s retailers safe.”
