Man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in Birmingham

A man has been arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences in Birmingham as part of a pre-planned operation by police.

Officers from West Midlands Police arrested the 19-year-old man from a house in Bartley Green on Tuesday on suspicion of disseminating terrorism materials and possession of an article for terrorist purposes.

The force said he remains in custody for question while investigations continue.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We've arrested a man in connection with terrorism offences following a pre-planned operation in Birmingham today (November 18)

"A 19-year-old was detained from an address in Bartley Green in Birmingham by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands. 

"A second address in Birmingham was also searched as part of the investigation.

"He has been arrested on suspicion of disseminating terrorism materials and possession of an article for terrorist purposes. He remains in custody for questioning.
