Sandwell man, 25, charged with possession of an imitation firearm and remanded in custody

A man has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm and a robbery of a gold bracelet on a Wednesbury street.

West Midlands Police confirmed that Malachi McPherson had been charged with possession of an imitation firearm, affray and several driving offences, as well as being charged in connection with a robbery.

The arrest of the 25-year-old from Wednesbury comes after damage was caused to a house on Bassett Road in the town on Saturday morning, with the occupants also threatened with an imitation firearm, which was later found to be a BB gun.

The second incident saw a woman robbed of a gold bracelet on Bromfield Crescent in the early hours of Saturday morning.

McPherson has been remanded in custody and will appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court on Monday morning.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "A man has been charged after threats were made with an imitation firearm and a woman was robbed in Wednesbury.

"Malachi McPherson, aged 25 from Wednesbury ,has been charged with possession of an imitation firearm, affray and several driving offences.

"This comes after damage was caused to an address on Bassett Road, Wednesbury just after 9.15am yesterday morning. The occupants were also threatened with an imitation firearm. Thankfully, no one was injured.

"The firearm was recovered and following forensic examination was confirmed to be a BB gun.

"McPherson has also been charged in connection with a robbery on Bromfield Crescent at around 6am yesterday morning. A woman was robbed of a gold bracelet.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Wolverhampton Magistrates Court tomorrow morning.

"Imitation firearms can look like viable firearms and cause a huge amount of fear. We take all reports of firearms very seriously and through our work under Op Target we are committed to taking weapons off the streets of the West Midlands."
