Lichfield woman denies murdering five-week-old baby
A 34-year-old Lichfield woman has pleaded not guilty to murdering a five-week-old baby.
Amy Clarke appeared at Birmingham Crown Court today (Thursday) via videolink from HMP Foston Hall for a short hearing to enter pleas to eight alleged offences.
Clarke, who wore a white top and beige cardigan, denied the murder and manslaughter of Darcy-Leigh Jefferson on March 29, 2022.
The defendant, of Enots Close, Lichfield, denied further charges of causing or allowing a child to die, two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent, two counts of causing or allowing a child to suffer serious physical harm, and cruelty to a person under 16 years of age.
During a hearing in June at Stafford Crown Court, Sean Jefferson, 35, of Birch Court, Walsall, pleaded not guilty to the same charges faced by Clarke.
The alleged offences are said to have happened between February 20 and March 27 of 2022.
Judge Andrew Smith KC said the trial for Jefferson and Clarke will begin on January 14 and is expected to take place at Stafford Crown Court.
