Gunman Uzair Shahid has been jailed for 25 and a half years over the shooting in broad daylight at the hairdressers. His accomplice, 19-year-old Toyub Ali must serve five and a half years in a young offenders institution before living on licence for another three years.

Tehmoor Hussain, aged 24, was shot in the stomach at the Katz Kutz hair salon in May 29, 2019.

Police recovered footage showing a BMW driving around the Birchills area around half an hour before the shooting, while other clips show the men two hours earlier at a car wash in Wednesbury Road. It was there detectives believe the duo planned the attack, possibly in conjunction with two other unidentified people.

Police also compared sightings of the black BMW in and around the area with an electronic monitoring tag Shahid was wearing. The tag and car being seen on CCTV at various locations at key times coincided five times. The BMW was later found burnt out in Avion Close.

CCTV also captured Ali getting his hair and beard cut at a barbers in Caldmore at around 7pm in what police believe was an attempt to change his appearance.

In April Shahid, 21, from Lichfield Road in Walsall, was found guilty of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

Accomplice Ali, 19, from Profit Street in Walsall, was convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

After the pair were found guilty, Detective Constable Craig Bathgate, who led the investigation, described the shooting as a "calculated, brutal and mindless act of violence" which had left Mr Hussain with "long-lasting physical and emotional damage".

"This crime shocked the local community, who we know had been living in fear of their behaviour for a long time," he added. "The pair were part of a gang and it’s thought they’d been involved in other previous acts of violence.

"The information we got from the community was invaluable and has ultimately helped us secure this conviction. I’d particularly like to commend the bravery and resilience of the victim and his family for their assistance throughout."
