Raiders steal ton of goods from Dudley charity

Heartless raiders have stripped a charity of a ton and a half of goods meant to help ease the lives of poor people.

The founder of Dudley-based Christians in Action Genesis Project says he forgives the burglars, who stole washing machines, electrical motors, clothes and other items as he had been in trouble himself before turning to religion.

But Steve Tracey urged them to realise: "They robbed from the poor to give to themselves."

The intruders smashed their way into the portable building and adjoining unit on the Thornleigh Trading Estate, where the organisation stores domestic appliances and clothes to give to needy families, last weekend.

"I was gutted when we got there on Monday to find what they'd done," said 47-year-old Mr Tracey, of School Street, Brierley Hill.

"They smashed lots of things up – took four washing machines, the cables, wires and motors out of other machines, bags of clothes, and all sorts."

He believes the same thieves are responsible for taking a lawn mower and four bikes from the charity's yard, as well as items from a skip, after cutting through fencing on the trading estate, off Dudley Southern Bypass, about three weeks ago.
