Two large town centre buildings to the south of Butler’s Passage are set to be demolished in early 2026.
The former Foot Locker, Subway, Fonehub (formerly Halifax), and Card Factory will be removed, opening up a new public plaza which will have a big screen to stream major events and also host pop-up events.
Walsall Council has confirmed that demolition on Park Street is on track to commence in early 2026 as planned.
Portfolio holder for regeneration, Councillor Adrian Andrew, said that works could have started even sooner, but leaving the town as a building site over Christmas wouldn’t have been well received.
Below are 30 pictures of Walsall town centre as it is now before it is set to change forever:

Speaking to shoppers and traders in Walsall, it is clear that the success of this project will set a precedent for the rest of the town centre’s regeneration.
Market trader Jasroop Singh, 23, said: “I think the antisocial behaviour situation is going to be worse when the buildings have gone there. It’s very difficult for traders, I have it every day here.
“Before getting the changes, I would like to see the council officers going round here and stopping the abuse.
“Once it’s more open it’s only going to get worse. I think there’s better points to be looked at before changing the town centre. I want them to do that but deal with the initial problems first.”
Shopper Mary Simpson, 73, said: “The town needs a lot doing to it. If getting rid of the buildings makes it safer then that will be a good start. I don’t know if it will.
“The council needs to make more things that will attract young people and families.”
Michael Pinnock, who works on a jacket potato stand in the town, added: “There needs to be a few more shops opening. It’s quiet. I’ve been on here, on and off, for the last three years but for the last month it’s been quiet.
“It should be busy coming up to Christmas. Even with the light switch on, where’s the decorations up here? I don’t know what’s going on with the council at the moment.
“I’ve heard there’s two building at the front and back going to make room. I’ve heard M&S is turning into a college. I don’t know what to believe. Once it’s happening, that’s fine. Maybe it’ll pick business up. “
