It will be a sad day for shoppers and the city - although bosses at the beloved high street chain have said they hope to find a suitable alternative location in Wolverhampton to open a new M&S Food store as part of the company’s new business model.

Speculation has been rife about potential sites with St John’s Retail Park touted as one of the most promising to accommodate a new M&S Food outlet.

There has been no official confirmation from Marks and Spencer, although the company has stressed it is committed to finding a new location for a food store - and is working with Wolverhampton Council to identify a suitable site.

St John’s Retail Park, which is home to a range of popular retailers, could be an appealing prospect for an M&S Food outlet.
