'We want to make the best impression,' Enjoy Wolverhampton BID boss says of clean-up for university open day
A city centre 'spruce up' is taking place over the next two days to show Wolverhampton at its best ahead of a university open day.
The community litter pick, taking place today (Thursday July 3) and Friday July 4, is an initiative between Enjoy Wolverhampton Business Improvement District (BID), University of Wolverhampton, Barclays, and the Wolves Foundation.

The 'spruce up' comes ahead of the university’s summer open day on Saturday July 5, which is expected to bring 2,400 visitors into the city and campuses.
The focus will be on the city centre and routes connecting City Campus and Springfield Campus.
Cherry Shine, managing director of Enjoy Wolverhampton BID, said “For many young people, university is their first real experience of independence.
"Whether they’re new to Wolverhampton or they’ve chosen to study close to home, we want to give them a warm welcome and make the best impression.
"We’ve previously coordinated spruce ups and they’re a great way for our city’s organisations to work together and feel pride in the city centre.”

Students from the university will also be given the opportunity to volunteer in the clean-up which Wolverhampton Council is supporting by providing equipment and guidance.
Sara Aslett, business development manager at the University of Wolverhampton, said “The spruce up is an opportunity for both our staff and students to feel part of the wider community and to make a positive impact on their home or adoptive home.”
Staff at Barclays have previously been involved in a city centre spruce up.
Kate Billingham, Barclays’ local specialist for Wolverhampton, said “The city spruce up is a fantastic way for the team to engage with the community and make a positive impact on our shared environment.”
The 'spruce up' will take place between 8am and 9am and 5pm to 6pm, on July 3 and 4.
