The Black Country Local Enterprise Partnership's new lead on communications and perception has set out his aims and vision for an area close to his heart.
He said: "Having lived in the Black Country for the majority of my working life, and having established my business in the Black Country for the last 20 years, I have a huge desire for the region to improve its performance.
"My new role on the LEP as lead for communications and perception gives me the opportunity to help local businesses grow and ensure the perception of the region nationally and internationally is positive.
"We have so much to be proud of, both in our history and in terms of what we are doing now, and we need people to sit up and listen." Mr Johal is managing director of Nachural Corporate Communications based in Wednesbury.
Recent work has included providing the soundtrack to Sacha Baron Cohen's latest smash film The Dictator and also producing the background music to an Orange mobile phone advert broadcast in Israel.
He has grown his business over the last 20 years to become a market leading event production and communications company.
He said: "My music company, Nachural Records has grown tremendously since its launch, and the Asian label became the first in its genre to cross over into mainstream music.
"We have had a top five hit in the UK charts and nine chart positions across Europe, and we were the first label to get its music onto Microsoft's Xbox games console."
Meanwhile, the business now also provides event production for clients such as the NHS, Lloyds Bank, the NEC and the Emirates Stadium in London. In addition to his new role on the Black Country LEP, Mr Johal is also president of Sandwell Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Black Country Asian Business Association.
