Discount store Poundworld is opening a new store in Stafford, creating 40 jobs.

The chain has spent £250,000 fitting out a shop at the town's Queens Retail Park. Staff will welcome their first customers at 10am tomorrow.

A branch of Poundworld's new home furnishings, electricals and toy operation, Discount UK, will be based within the 6,500sq ft store.

It is Poundworld's 146th outlet across the country. Wolverhampton and Walsall also have branches.

Chris Edwards Junior, trading director at Poundworld and Discount UK, said: "We're really delighted to be opening our first store in Stafford and to be creating 40 new jobs for the town."

Visual merchandising manager Mark Azram added: "This is the fourth store we've set up this week, the others are in Staines, East Ham and Chelmsford.

"We're just getting the stock on the shelves now and we'll be ready to open to the public."

Poundworld today also announced plans to open a further 35 stores by the end of 2012. The Yorkshire-based firm was founded in 1997. Discount UK was set up in 2010 and has more than 30 stores nationwide.
